Research has proven time and time again that generally speaking, positive people have a higher quality of life and live longer. They have stronger social connections, better health, and bounce back from difficult life circumstances faster.
As someone with a background in Psychology, I'm often delving into new research and have become somewhat obsessed with a rather new branch of the field called, Positive Psychology. I recently completed a free online 5 week course offered thru University of Pennsylvania through my favorite learning platform, Coursera.
The most important takeaway I got, which is just a scientific confirmation, being positive should be a lifelong habit, pursuit and way of life.
There's some people who choose to be positive under certain conditions and around certain people but there's a tribe of individuals who chose to be more optimistic, more forgiving, more encouraging, more open mind, more giving, and more joyful than the average person. I challenge you to join them.
In my recent studies, I learned that Positive Psychologists have pinpointed 10 basic positive emotions.
I love being able to find something to focus my attention on and being mindful of gratitude, amusement or even awe has shifted so much for me.
I get that you won't always feel positive, but you can choose to see positivity in anything. Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% your reaction.
I just prefer to react (on average) in a positive manner. It's no fun being a downer, tearing others and the atmosphere down. People used to ask me, why be so happy and bubbly? Well I'd reply, why not? Feeling ehhh sure doesn't enhance my own or other's lives.
I contribute my strength and tenacity to my positivity. I acknowledge that positivity is what keeps me going and besides anything, has guided me into walking in my purpose.
I believe if you choose a life and attitude of positivity, you too will notice major shifts in your life and in all you choose to watch, see, hear or speak. Come join the tribe! because the world could ALWAYS use more love!
