Hurt and negativity are everywhere. I realize that there have been many cases recently highlighted in which young black children were killed by their nonblack neighbors. I also understand that its more common for people to speak negative about oppression, rather than infuse love so that it can drive out that darkness exist in the minds and hearts of many. Well, I choose light. The last couple of days, I've seen so many memes about the injustices done towards the deaths of young black youth and even convictions of Black lawbreakers versus Whites. As someone with a background in Sociology and Social Work, my world was consumed by knowledge, awareness, and work towards eradicating isms: colorism, classism, racism, etc. Yet as I entered a more progressive spiritual journey, I truly do believe in the power of energy, thoughts, and the law of attraction. My sense of consciousness, and the gifts I can share with the world to impact have evolved. I'm more of a Ghandi, as opposed to a Malcolm X. I would not say that I completely ignore these isms, but I do not dwell in them. I am aware of major stories because I see them on my timeline and look them up, but I don't watch the news. Every once and a while I check headlines on the internet. Some say that I'm choosing to be oblivious, but I disagree. I am selective of what I voluntarily open my awareness to. Everything that we take in, affects our thoughts, which affects our beliefs, and thus our behaviors and lives.
Instead of fighting systems, I've chose to impact people. People are the ones that carry out, affect, abide, or cause revolutions against the systems. Inequalities, discrimination, and injustices are existent; I am very present to that. Fighting dark with dark, does nothing. Only light can drive out darkness. People act out of fear, hate, and discrimination because they do not know what love looks like. There are lots of minds that have been heavily impacted by negative images and prejudices of others, therefore creating a never ending cycle of bad judgments, and worse consequences for others lives...but there is a fine line between sharing stories for global awareness versus doing it to demonize the "oppressing group." It's more powerful to post about positivity, love, joy, harmony, and even the act of truly working on bettering one's self. If people focus on love, and making themselves better people, they will be able to live from a place of love, and these injustices will naturally begin to fade away.
My charge to you is to send love and light as you may hear unfortunate reports. Comment from a place of love. Those who hurt lack love, and possibly mental stability; speak for their healing. Speak to the impact that the stories will make. Speak to the lives touched by those affected.
