Since the age of 26, I've constantly desired to be in a positive space with other positive people for the purpose of personal development. Once I started seeking and engaging in those environments, it became refreshing, but then once I intentionally embarked on my self love journey, I wanted something more. I'm blessed to say that at 29, I've been able to create the "more" I've desired.
I didn't want to be in pseudo-inspirational environments. What I've come to know is when you are embarking on a life journey where transformation and purpose is the center of your life, its of extreme importance to be around individuals who are aligned with you. Some people are content where they are in life; some just want to feel good; and others, they crave something so deep, that they need to feed their desire as much as they want to breathe. Whatever a person's focus is in life, its best to be around people who have similar interests unless you want something different. As I began to become more transparent with my own journey and desiring to connect with others in a vulnerable and intimate way, I found myself creating the very environments I wanted to be a part of. I started creating opportunities for women on a journey who were willing to go to the places most don't with others. For my 28th birthday, I had a small dinner party, with intentional table topics. I started hosting intimate events for healing, like my Self Love & Yoga series. Then myself and a friend created a special brunch for women of the African Diaspora. We've now hosted 2 of these brunches, and women love it. So we decided to take it to another city, and it sold out! In the past I felt like I was in such a minority of people that wanted to be a part of a soul stirring environment but I'm so clear and excited to say that I'm noticing that women in my networks and beyond, want more. More intimacy. More conversations of depth. More activities that promote empowerment, wellness, and a better life. This week the women's brunch sold out in another city. It sold out within 2 weeks of the actual event. Not only was I grateful, but it really made me tune into the fact that there are a group of women, millennials and those a bit more seasoned, that don't just want "normal" social events. It fills my heart up to know there is a shift for women to be a part of circles and events that help them grow. Anyone can pay hundreds or thousands of dollars to be "inspired and motivated." But I think that is just the tip of the iceberg. Being in spaces with others who feed and reflect your goals, desires, passions, purposes, and wounds, is not only nurturing but also cathartic. We cannot expect to grow by just our own merits. We need community, and we need nurturing communities. Look at flowers. They grow as bunches. At minimum, most need water and soil. Its beautiful that we are getting to a point where more people are walking into intentional spaces of healing, vulnerability and openness. People are afraid of their own truths, and they are even more afraid of letting people in to their worlds of imperfection. Yet the truth is, most people have issues with confidence, fears or hurt. We all have something that can be healed and strengthened. Its easy to distract ourselves with hours of meaningless TV and movies. Its easy to go out for drinks and talk about things that don't really benefit us. But to go to a place within you, that allows you to connect to the humanity in someone else, is a big deal. Thus, I'm excited to create those spaces. Make sure you find and or create those spaces. They are absolutely food for the soul! BE Nurtured, Tiffany W. |
