In 2018, I cofounded the social enterprise, Coco Coalition to offer spaces curated specifically for women of the African Diaspora, and use such opportunities to not only highlight issues being faced by youth, but also use proceeds to support and create initiatives that help eliminate educational and health barriers for them.
Coco was established out of the demand and reception from the International Black & Beautiful Women's Brunch.
The Black & Beautiful Brunch provides a safe space for women who identify with the African diaspora to fellowship over food and positive energy while discussing issues that affect their lives and well-being as Black women. The intention is to provide a space for healing, conversation, as well as networking.
Every year, there is a different theme, which resonates with the experiences of Black women, and are selected due to current events. Previous themes have included:
2015: Say Her Name, Uplift her, Empower Her
2016: I AM My Sisters Keeper: Building Bonds, Practicing Self Care& Releasing the Superwoman Identity
2017: My Black is Enough: Embodying Self-Love, Embracing My Sisters, & Epitomizing Excellence
This year's theme is Black & Healthy: Nourishing Black women's mental, reproductive and holistic health
